10/14/04 Just a few days till the show and a lot has happend. First the frustrating news. Our
food vendor wants to back out leaving Jackie searching all day yesterday for a replacement. We finally got something
worked out, hopefully.
We have assigned jobs to many of the members. If you would like a job it is not to late to help. Contact us
soon.
The T-shirt design was overhauled. The Bugs no longer look burned into the wood as it was inteded to look (artistically
speaking). The basic look is the same. Piece of wood with info around it. The age rings visible. However
the VWs have changed. There is now a Karman Ghia, Bus, Dune Buggy, and New Beetle (which looks similar to Blue
Smiley because we already had it in the right format). Next year we will hire someone to make the art work. That
way we are not stuck with less than a week and a design change. The shirts should be available at the meet and
greet friday night at Wingat from 7:00-8:30.
We have decided to have pizza and soft drinks available at the club's cost for those who come the day before and attend
the meet and greet. It won't be an all you can eat deal, but you will get at least one-two slices.
We were contacted by the new Holiday Inn in town. It has been open less than a year and they won't our business.
If you have not already booked a room at the Wingate then I would suggest the Holiday Inn. They are offering any room
for $75 (Wingate offered $79). Next year they will probably be our host hotel. THe Wingate has given us
the run around too much. To bad the Holiday Inn doesn't have a logo that looks like a New Beetle.
By the Way if you see Jackie at the Show tell her how much you appriciate all that she has done. She has organized
the whole show almost by herself. She is extremely stressing right now. To top it off she doesn't even have
a VW.
That is all for this update. The next will be after the show. I will list all of the winners here.
See you at the show.
9/17/04 Less then one month till our show and a lot has progressed. The awards are almost
done. They have been branded, burned, and (clear)stained. The photo pockets have arrived and so have the name
plaques. We put together a set of the awards to show at our monthly meeting the other night. Now we just need
to do the other 65.
The deadline for Show sponsors has come and gone. We have gained several new sponsors this past week.
We went from 8 spots on the back of the shirts to 23. We are still waiting for the mail to deliver the money and forms
for a few of them. I have done a partial update to the list of sponsors on the site. More will come once I have
completed images and info for them.
Jackie has been on the phones non-stop lately and cruising around town gathering new sponsors. She has also
been in touch with several TV and Radio Stations. We may be receiving coverage by our new CBS news station.
8/16/04 We received our Show flyers/registration form this week. The
envelopes
were ready to be filed with them. Anyone who registered for the show last year, or has joined the club,
will receive a show flyer in the mail. They were sent out today. We chose to add extra flyers to some of the envelopes
to be distributed among their club members. Flyers can also be downloaded off the Information Page.
We made two important decisions about the awards. First to give out a third place award as well, but with out
a picture. And second to create a new class called VW Cousins so that a group of old Porsches one of our club members
knows can participate.
Later this week we will have the wood branded with out VW branding iron.
8/9/04 Last weekend we received our wood for the awards from our club member, Rodney.
The awards are going to be very unique for our show. We have already begun purchasing the supplies for the photos that
will go on the awards. This year our own club member, Jason, will be taking care of the pictures for
the awards. We delivered the finished master copy for the flyer/pre-registration form to our club member, Oscar.
He will be making numerous copies for us and bringing them to our monthly meeting this Tuesday. Once we (Jennifer
and Jackie) receive them we will be able to maile them out to all who registered last year. Club member who
are attending Eureka Springs will have some to pass out as well.
The show has an additional sponsor, Texas Bank & Trust. We are very excited to have them on board. We
still need about 7 more spots to be filled on the back of the T-shirts.
